Margot Kidder's Bio:
Margot Kidder, best known for her starring role as Superman's love interest Lois Lane in the "Superman" movie franchise, spent her childhood moving around remote towns in Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories of Canada. Her father's work as an explosives expert and mining engineer required the family to live in remote mining locations, and led to Margot attending 11 different schools in 12 years, and she spent her first two and a half years living in a caboose. Knowing that the stress of constant moving was causing their daughter added stress, Margot's parents sent her to a boarding school, where she was finally able to put down roots and began to take part in school plays. Margot caught the acting bug while attending the University of British Columbia, and went on to act in a number of small Canadian productions before finding her way to Los Angeles in the late 60's.
Kidder found success in roles alongside Gene Wilder and Beau Bridges before starring in Brian De Palma's 1973 cult classic "Sisters." She continued to have solid acting roles, but found her break to super-stardom in 1978 when she was cast as Lois Lane alongside Christopher Reeve in the smash hit "Superman," a role she would reprise in three more of the franchise's sequels. Although she continued to find starring roles, none matched the exposure of "Superman."
Margot injured her back in an accident in 1990, preventing her from working regularly. The ensuing medical treatment, and her insurance company's denial to pay, left Margot in a difficult financial situation. In 1996, while working on her autobiography, her computer became infected with a virus causing her to lose a substantial portion of her work. This event compounded the stress she was already under due to her financial worries, and led to a much-publicized breakdown. Her friends and former co-stars quickly came to offer support, Christopher Reeve and Richard Pryor both rushed to her defense, and Broadway producer David Merrick vowed to star her in a show. Thanks to the public outpouring of support, Margot was able to return to stability and regain her footing in showbiz.
Kidder continues to act in various television, movie and stage roles, including a part in the story of Superman-in-youth, "Smallville." Beyond her time on the screen, Margot is very passionate and often outspoken about political causes. …
