Jim Ryun's Bio: Jim Ryun is both a former Representative from Kansas and a former U.S. Olympic Athlete. He was elected as a Republican to the One Hundred Fifth Congress in 1996 and held his position for four additional terms until 2007.

Ryun originally achieved national attention as a track and field star while in high school. In 1965, he set the males high school mile record by running it in 3:55.3, a record that stood for 36 years. He is the first ever high school male to run a mile in under four minutes.

Ryun also participated in three summer Olympic games in 1964,'68, and '72. Though he was never able to acquire gold, he did win a silver medal in the 1500 meter run in '68. In addition to his high school mile record, Jim has held the World Record in the mile, the 1500 meter run, and the 880 yard run.

Ryun has since become the founder and president of a public relations company he named Jim Ryun Sports, Inc. In cooperation with the resound Hearing Aid Co., Ryun was able to create "Sounds of Success," a program aimed at helping hearing impaired children.

Ryun has devoted the last few years to helping young runners in his camps like the "Adidas Jim Ryun Running Camp" and has traveled for Adidas as a world wide representative attempting to spread running as a sport across the world. … Read more
