Miley Cyrus' Bio:
Born Destiny Hope Cyrus on November 23, 1992, this child that seemed to be always smiling was given the nickname "Smiley," which was later shortened to just "Miley." Little did her country superstar father Billy Ray Cyrus know, that name would soon be plastered all over walls and CD racks everywhere. But another name would come first, for a time.
When Miley was 8 years old, she and her family moved to Toronto, Canada while her father was filming the television series "Doc." In 2001, her father took her to see a theater production of "Mamma Mia!" at the Royal Alexandria Theater. Miley grabbed her father's arm and said, "This is what I want to do, daddy. I want to be an actress." After enrolling in singing and acting classes at the Armstrong Acting Studio in Toronto, Miley got her first-ever role playing a girl named Kylie on her father's show, "Doc." In 2003, Miley got her first role in a big-budget feature playing Young Ruthie in Tim Burton's "Big Fish," though she was credited under her birth name Destiny Hope Cyrus. Later that year she heard that Disney was casting for a new show about a girl with a secret double life as a teen pop star, and she sent in an audition tape first auditioning for the show's best friend role until she received a call asking her to audition for the lead, "Chloe Steward." After sending in the new tape and flying to Hollywood for further auditions, Miley was told that she was too young and too small for the lead role. But her persistence and singing and acting ability eventually led the producers to call her back for further auditions. Finally, at age 12, she received the lead role, which was renamed "Miley Stewart" after herself.
In March of 2006, when Miley was only 13, she was introduced to the world with the premiere of "Hannah Montana" on the Disney Channel, which quickly launched her to super-stardom as a teen idol. Her premiere performance was the largest audience ever for a Disney Channel show, and it soon became one of the highest-rated series on basic cable. Disney's immense marketing power and vast multimedia holdings helped elevate Miley's star power, with deals in television, film, consumer products and music, all with the "Hannah Montana" brand. Miley Cyrus scored her first hit music single with "The Best of Both Worlds," the Hannah Montana theme song, released just a few days after the show's premiere. Miley's first release under her own name was a cover of "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah," which was released in April of 2006 on "DisneyMania." Later that year, Disney released the first official soundtrack to "Hannah Montana," with 8 of the 9 tracks credited to "Hannah Montana" and the ninth credited to Cyrus. The album would go on to reach number one on the US Billboard 200 chart.
The second season of "Hannah Montana" premiered in April of 2007, and in June of that year Miley the first album of a four-album deal with Disney-owned Hollywood Records. The album was a double-disc set, with the first disc being the sound track to season two of "Hannah Montana" and the second disc being "Meet Miley Cyrus," her official debut attributed to her own name. When her first single was released and reached the top 10, the "Best of Both Worlds Tour" was announced to promote both "Hannah Montana" and Miley Cyrus. Tickets for the tour, which also featured the Jonas Brothers, Aly & AJ and Everlife, sold out in minutes.
After the tour wrapped up in 2008, Disney released "Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert," a 3D concert film of the tour. Although they had anticipated only showing the film for one week, it grossed over $31 million in that first week, convincing Disney to let the film run longer. The film's soundtrack peaked at number 3 on the Billboard 200. Miley's second album, "Breakout," was released in 2008 and debuted at #1 on the US Billboard 200 chart. With a successful album on the charts and a hit show on TV, Miley's career was bigger than ever. She hosted the Teen Choice Awards, co-hosted the CMT Music Awards with her father, and received a Golden Globe nomination for her duet with John Travolta, "I Thought I Lost You" for the movie "Bolt," which she also starred in as the voice of Penny.
With all this success, Miley had a number of options ahead of her. Her representatives negotiated a deal for novelist Nicholas Sparks to write a screenplay and novel for a film to introduce Miley to a more mature crowd than her "Hannah Montana" fans, which became "The Last Song." A full-length movie of the "Hannah Montana" show was released in 2009, and the accompanying soundtrack with 12 songs performed by Miley was also a commercial success. Also during 2009, Miley decided that she wanted to focus more on her singing and acting away from "Hannah Montana," but Disney exercised their contract option for a fourth season. Between her many activities, Miley also found time to publish her first book, "Miles to Go," a memoir of her life through age 16, and to record and release her second album under her own name, "The Time of Our Lives," which featured the hit single "Party in the U.S.A."
2010 was another amazing year for Miley. Production of the fourth and final season of "Hannah Montana" began in January. Her movie, "The Last Song," was released in March. Her third studio album, "Can't Be Tamed" was released in June, and she acted in two other movies, "LOL: Laughing Out Loud" and "So Undercover." 2011 saw Miley hitting the road again on the "Gypsy Heart Tour," which ended in Australia in July. In March of 2011 she hosted Saturday Night Live, and she was named #1 on the "Top 10 Richest Teens in Hollywood" with an estimated net worth of more than $120 million. …
