Danny Meyer's Bio: Meyer was born and raised in St. Louis, where he attended John Burroughs School. He spent portions of his childhood traveling throughout Europe with his father's tour company, studying food and hospitality in France and Italy, including such cities as Bordeaux, Rome, and Paris. He graduated from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut in 1980. In 1985, at 27, he began his career as a restaurateur by opening Union Square Cafe.

Meyer's restaurants include:Union Square Cafe, Eleven Madison Park (featuring a 'minimalist grid' menu), and Shake Shack

Six of his restaurants are in the Union Square area of Manhattan; the greenmarket there played a role in the situation of his restaurants.

Meyer has made numerous appearances at the annual Food & Wine Magazine Classic in Aspen, Colorado.

Meyer is also in charge of the concession stand, Taste of the City at Citi Field in Queens, featuring locations of Shake Shack and Blue Smoke.

In an interview in October 2008, Meyer discussed how while some of his restaurants, such as Eleven Madison Park and Tabla were hit by the economic downturn, Shake Shack and Blue Smoke were benefiting, both in getting more customers and hiring more employees. During the interview Meyer called himself "cautiously optimistic" and suggested that to weather the recession restaurant owners should "streamline their supply-line." In April 2009, reacting to the economy, Meyer's The Modern in the MoMA will start to serve lunch on weekends and will waive corkage fees for anyone who brings their own bottle of wine on Sundays. Besides the Modern, Meyer's group also operates two cafes in the MOMA.

In June 2009, Meyer opened his latest concession stand, Public Fare, at The Public Theater at The Delacorte in Central Park.
