Andy Williams' Bio:
Andy Williams began singing with his three brothers, in a local Presbyterian church choir set up by his parents. The brothers became regulars on a number of radio stations, and the exposure brought them to the attention of Bing Crosby.
The boys' first recordi
ng with Crosby was ‘Swinging On A Star’, in 1944. However, in 1951, the boys disbanded and each brother went his separate way.
Andy’s first television job was a regular on Steve Allen's ‘Tonight Show’, and this slot helped him secure his first recor
ding contract. His first album, ‘Andy Williams Sings Steve Allen’ had a string of hits, including ‘Canadian Sunset’, ‘Butterfly’ and ‘The Hawaiian Wedding Song’.
In the 1950s, Andy worked the nightclub circuit and, in 1962, he began his 28-yea
r association with Columbia Records. Andy clocked up a staggering number of hit records during this time, such as the classics ‘Can't Get Used to Losing You’ and ‘Moon River’.
The debut of Andy’s weekly TV show, ‘The Andy Williams Show’, secured
his star status. This new variety show lasted for nine years, and won three Emmy Awards.
Andy continued to dominate the live circuit. In 1966, he opened Caesar's Palace, and subsequently headlined at the famed Las Vegas hotel for the next 20 years.
In 1992,
Andy opened the $12 million state-of-the-art ‘Andy Williams Moon River Theatre’ and he performs six days a week from September through December. He and his wife Debbie live just a few miles from the theatre, and the entertainer spends his down time trout
fishing in Lake Taneycomo.
