Jimmy Cliff

Jimmy Cliff knew he wanted to be a musician from a very young age. When he was just 14 years old, he convinced an utter stranger to get into the recording business and begin his career by recording the young teen. It would end up being a smart move for both of them as "Hurricane Hattie" became a hit.

Cliff would consider to impress the crowds of his hometown in Jamaica so much so that in 1964, he was chosen to represent his home country at the World's Fair. The trip would prove successful gaining him much recognition and getting him signed to Island Records. His international debut album, "Hard Road to Travel" received excellent reviews and sold fairly well despite questions about how to market his music.

In '72, Cliff made a transition into film starring as Ivan Martin in the classic reggae film "The Harder They Come".

Cliff would continue traveling and recording a number of hits. In '85, he won a Grammy for Best Reggae Album. In the early '90s, Cliff would record two songs that would become well known soundtrack singles; releasing his own version of Johnny Nash's "I Can See Clearly Now" which was featured in the Jamaican based "Cool Runnings" and the hit no worries song "Hakuna Matata".
