Founded in 1981, the group 10,000 Maniacs, together with artists like R.E.M., helped to define college rock. The college rock scene eventually matured and created the first wave of alternative rock bands that later became known as the alternative rock format on FM radio. 10,000 Maniacs saw great success with songs like "These Are Days", which was released in 1993 and peaked at #1 on the US Alternative charts, and "Trouble Me" which peaked at #3 in 1989.
Today, 10,000 Maniacs is still active over 30 years after formation, a feat very few bands can claim to have reached. They've been seen performing at Griffis Sculpture Park in Ashford Hollow, New York and Oyster Festival in Norwalk, Connecticut. The band recently has had concerts in Chicago, IL; Keystone, CO; Rochester, NY and Clarence, NY. The band recorded an "Unkempt" acoustic show in Jamestown in early 2010. They also celebrated their 30th anniversary in October of 2011 be selling out two concerts at the Scharmann Theater at Jamestown Community College.
